Terminal (electronics)

A terminal is the point at which a conductor from an electrical component, device or network comes to an end and provides a point of connection to external circuits. A terminal may simply be the end of a wire or it may be fitted with a connector or fastener. In network analysis, terminal means a point at which connections can be made to a network in theory and does not necessarily refer to any real physical object. In this context, especially in older documents, it is sometimes called a pole.

The connection may be temporary, as seen in portable equipment, may require a tool for assembly and removal, or may be a permanent electrical joint between two wires or devices.

All electric cells have two terminals. The first is the positive terminal and the second is the negative terminal. The positive terminal looks like a metal cap and the negative terminal looks like a metal disc. The current flows from the positive terminal, and out through the negative terminal, replicative of current flow (positive (+) to negative (-) flow).

History

Formation and How the Lonely Keep

Formed in 1998 under the name Letter Twelve, the group signed to Tooth & Nail Records in 2004 and changed its name. The band's first, and only, release under this name was entitled How the Lonely Keep, and in 2005 they went on tour with labelmates Anberlin. The record hit number 39 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart in 2005. Matthew Tsai of Absolute Punk called the record "one of the great emo releases of the 00's". Melodic.net compared the group to Anberlin, Jimmy Eat World, and Third Eye Blind.

Shortly after the release of the album, all of the band's members except for lead singer Travis Bryant departed the group during their tour with The Spill Canvas and Rufio; Bryant toured with Terminal as a solo act for the remainder of the tour. Bryant found replacements for the members later in 2005 and continued to tour behind the album, touring with Saosin, He Is Legend, The Juliana Theory, Cartel, The Working Title, Codeseven, The Receiving End of Sirens, and Yesterdays Rising. Terminal split in January 2006.

Delivery is a 2005 animated short film by German digital and visual artist, graphic designer and filmmaker Till Nowak, created as his thesis film project.

Background

Nowak wrote and produced the film in 2005 as his thesis project at the University of Applied Sciences in Mainz. He had no expectation that anything would develop from releasing the film, and stated "I didn’t expect this little film to change my life, but it all went really crazy. At first, when I entered it only into some small festivals, I didn’t have big plans for it. I just thought that one or two festivals would be nice to show the film and meet some people. Then the film won awards in the first three festivals and I recognized that it had much more potential. Over three years I travelled to Australia, Korea, USA, Spain and many other countries and until now the film has been screened in more than 200 festivals. I have sold it to some TV stations in some countries and won more than 35 awards." [sic] These events caused Nowak to change his professional focus from commercial advertising work to independent art and film. Among the film's many awards were those from AFI Fest Hollywood, Annecy International Animated Film Festival, Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau Kurzfilmpreis, and a nomination from the European Film Awards. He had first shared the film on an internet forum discussing simulated 3-D in film, the resulting attention included hundreds of emails with job offers and festival invitations.

Three Delivery

Three Delivery is an American/Canadian animated sitcom and action adventure, inspired by kung-fu movies. It was created by Larry Schwarz, who also created similar series, Kappa Mikey and Speed Racer: The Next Generation. It is a collaboration between Animation Collective in Manhattan, New York and the now-defunct Fatkat in Miramichi, New Brunswick as their very last project. The show premiered on Nicktoons in the United States, and YTV in Canada on June 27, 2008. An episode of Three Delivery was first shown at the New York Comic Con 2008, on April 19, 2008. The show is currently being broadcast in the UK on CBBC having begun on February 21, 2009 and on Once TV in Mexico.
